On November 15, 1971, 15-year-old Maria Johnson, a Caucasian female from Galveston, Texas, disappeared while hitchhiking with her best friend, Debbie Ackerman, to Houston. The girls were last seen near an ice cream shop on the island, where they accepted a ride from a man in a white van. Unfortunately, they never reached their destination, and their bodies were discovered two days later in Turner's Bayou near Texas City.
