In the spring of 2019, the life of 18-year-old Tavian Armand McFarland, a Black / African American male, was cut tragically short. On the evening of April 3rd, in the 200 block of Reams Court in Chesterfield, Virginia, what began as a seemingly ordinary day ended in a devastating incident. Emergency services were dispatched to the location at approximately 7:23 p.m.
following reports of a male suffering from a gunshot wound.
Upon their arrival, first responders found Tavian with a life-threatening injury. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency medical care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Tavian succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of the following day, April 4, 2019. His passing sent a shockwave of grief through his family and the community that knew him.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting were conducted by the Chesterfield County Police Department. The evidence and subsequent reports from the investigation indicated that Tavian had inadvertently shot himself. Law enforcement officials determined that the discharge of the handgun was accidental, and as a result, there was no indication of foul play. The case was not pursued as a criminal investigation, and therefore, no arrests were made, and there were no suspects. Tavian was remembered for his selfless spirit and his love for family and friends, leaving behind a lasting impression on those he touched with his kindness and music.
