On a late summer evening in Richmond, Virginia, the life of 37-year-old Keith Evans, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On August 30, 2014, in the 2300 block of Fairfield Avenue, Evans was shot and fatally wounded. The call reporting the shooting came in to the Richmond Police Department at approximately 5:47 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Evans suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to VCU Medical Center, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
In the wake of his death, family and friends gathered for a vigil in Fairfield Court to remember and honor him. His wife, Angela, expressed the profound and senseless loss felt by his loved ones. The death of Keith Evans was noted as one of the 42 homicides that occurred in the city of Richmond in 2014, a year that saw a disproportionate number of Black men as victims of such violence.
Despite the initial investigation and pleas for information from the public, details regarding a motive for the shooting have not been released. To date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made in connection with the homicide of Keith Evans. The case remains unsolved, leaving his family and community still seeking answers and justice for his untimely death.
