On the night of October 26, 2022, the life of Ronnel Wayne, a 30-year-old Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in Richmond, Virginia. Around 10:30 p.m., police were dispatched to the 3500 block of Chamberlayne Avenue following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Wayne unresponsive in the courtyard of an apartment building. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Richmond Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. The Medical Examiner's office later confirmed that the cause of death was the gunshot injury he sustained. Detectives from the Major Crimes Division began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to Mr. Wayne's death, seeking leads and gathering evidence from the scene and the surrounding community.
