Anthony Cedric Hudgins Jr., a 38-year-old man, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the early morning of April 23, 2019. The shooting occurred on N. Jamestown Drive in Petersburg, Virginia. He was transported to Southside Regional Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Known affectionately as “Amp June/Boo,” Hudgins was a native of Petersburg where he attended school.
He was known for his comical humor and for bringing positive energy and joy to any room he entered. He was a devoted father to eight children, as well as a son, brother, and friend. His death was a significant loss to his family and the community.
Shortly after the fatal shooting, the Petersburg Police Department began an active investigation into the incident. This led to the arrest of a suspect, Rickey Young, who was taken into custody without incident in connection with Hudgins' death. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continued as authorities urged anyone with information to come forward. Funeral services for Anthony Hudgins Jr. were held on May 2, 2019, followed by his interment at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
