A 44-year-old white male named Andrey Dorozhin, of Delta Junction, Alaska, was one of two men murdered on January 20, 2023. The other victim was 35-year-old male Dmitriy Sergiyenko, also of Delta Junction. They were fatally shot at the Alaska Rehabilitation Center in an early afternoon double homicide.
The suspect, 33-year-old Daniel P. Serkov of North Pole, checked into the facility a day before, reportedly seeking treatment for chronic drug addiction. On January 20, authorities discovered the bullet-riddled bodies of Dorozhin and Sergiyenko, along with a dog that had also been shot at the facility. Soon after, Serkov was taken into custody. A 9mm handgun suspected of having been used in the shootings was confiscated. He was remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center on two counts of first-degree murder, plus charges of evidence tampering and, later, criminal mischief. His bail was set at $2 million.
In the course of the investigation Serkov admitted to the shootings, claiming that the two men had threatened him, demanding that he surrender prescription medications and cigarettes he possessed. He said he had feared for his safety, alleging they had presented or threatened him with a knife, though it was later found that no one actually used a knife against him.
A grand jury indicted Daniel P. Serkov for the murders of Andrey Dorozhin and Dmitriy Sergiyenko. He faces up to 99 years in prison for each first-degree murder count if convicted. Court hearings have been delayed; his omnibus hearing was rescheduled into February, with trial tentatively set for March.
