On January 20, 2023, in Delta Junction, Alaska, 35-year-old male Dmitriy Sergiyenko was found dead alongside 45-year-old Andrey Dorozhin inside a sober-living/drug-rehab residence on the Tanana Loop Extension. Alaska State Troopers arrived to find both men shot multiple times and a dog also killed at the scene. Investigators later documented that the 35-year-old male victim, Dmitriy Sergiyenko, had been struck by four gunshots, while Dorozhin suffered ten; neither man had a weapon.
Within hours of the discovery, a 33-year-old North Pole resident, Daniel Serkov, contacted Fairbanks police and surrendered a pistol. According to investigators, he admitted to the shootings, first claiming self-defense and saying he had only moved into the residence the night before and did not know the victims. He told law enforcement he picked up spent shell casings, left the house, shot the dog as he departed, had the pistol cleaned at a Fairbanks shop, and then took it to police. Troopers seized the handgun believed to have been used.
Serkov was arrested and arraigned that weekend. He was held on two counts of first-degree murder with bail set at $2 million, and additional charges of evidence tampering and later criminal mischief were added as the investigation unfolded. A grand jury subsequently indicted him in connection with the deaths of the 35-year-old male victim, Dmitriy Sergiyenko, and Dorozhin.
Two and a half years later, a Fairbanks jury rejected Serkov's self-defense account. On October 1, 2025, the jury found him guilty of two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of manslaughter, along with tampering with physical evidence and fifth-degree criminal mischief. The verdict affirmed that on January 20, 2023, 35-year-old male victim Dmitriy Sergiyenko was shot to death inside the residence; after the killings, Serkov gathered shell casings, left the scene, and tried to distance the weapon from the crime. He was remanded without bail pending sentencing, which was scheduled for March 9, 2026; the murder counts alone carry potential sentences of 15 to 99 years each.
