In the winter of 2019, tragedy struck in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with the death of 34-year-old Jamil Washington. On the evening of December 14th, at approximately 9:00 PM, Fredericksburg police were dispatched to an apartment in the 1200 block of Kenmore Avenue following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene. Washington had been fatally shot and was pronounced dead at the location. A second male victim was also found at the scene with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and was subsequently released the following morning.
The initial investigation suggested the involvement of three male suspects who were wearing masks at the time of the incident. The Fredericksburg Police Department, with assistance from the Prince William County Police Department, launched an intensive investigation into the double shooting. This led to a significant breakthrough just two days after the incident.
On December 16, 2019, authorities arrested 19-year-old Darian Lamar Wilhoit Jones of Stafford County in connection with the shootings. Jones faced a litany of serious charges, including capital murder, attempted capital murder, attempted robbery, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Following his arrest, he was held without bond at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center. The investigation into the incident remained active and ongoing as authorities continued to piece together the events that led to the death of Jamil Washington.
