In the closing hours of Christmas Eve in 2019, a tragic shooting in Portsmouth, Virginia, claimed the life of 25-year-old Da’Jour Jonoid Collins, Sr., a male resident of nearby Virginia Beach. The incident, which cut short a young life, left a family and community in mourning during what should have been a festive time of year.
Da'Jour, known affectionately as 'D.J.' to his friends and family, was a father to a daughter and two sons.
He had attended Lakeland High School and was employed as a Farmer Stock at Birdsong Peanuts. His life was celebrated at a funeral service on January 6, 2020, at Balm Church East Campus, and he was laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The outpouring of grief from his loved ones painted a picture of a cherished individual whose sudden death left a significant void.
In the wake of the shooting, the Portsmouth Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Despite the passage of time, the case has remained a difficult one for law enforcement. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with Da’Jour Collins's murder, and no arrests have been made.
