Reginald Lamont Smith II, a 26-year-old male, was killed on November 6, 2018. Known affectionately as 'Reggie G,' he was described as a 'Gentle Giant' with a contagious smile and a huge heart. His life was centered around his three children, and his main goal was to be a great father, a role he accomplished flawlessly.
On that Tuesday, shortly
before noon, police responded to a call on Dunkirk Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Reginald suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper body. Despite the efforts of first responders, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The incident marked the second violent death in Portsmouth in less than a day, shaking the local community.
In the wake of the shooting, the Portsmouth Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Their efforts quickly led to a suspect, and on the same day as the incident, an arrest was made. Devontae Robinson, also 26 years old at the time, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with Reginald's death.
