In the spring of 2016, a shooting in Portsmouth, Virginia, claimed the life of 19-year-old Demond T. Mitchell. On the afternoon of Monday, April 4, 2016, police responded to calls about a shooting in the 900 block of Suburban Parkway shortly after 5 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered a young man with a life-threatening gunshot wound.
