On December 8, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Urbana, Illinois, resulting in the death of 34-year-old Kadeem J. Moore. The Urbana Police Department received a report of a shooting in the 2000 block of Vawter Street. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Moore with multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite efforts to save him, Kadeem J. Moore succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Urbana Police Department detectives launched an active investigation, interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence related to the case.
The investigation led to a breakthrough on December 14, 2023, when a Champaign County judge issued an arrest warrant for Turhan L. Sims, a 35-year-old Urbana resident. Sims was charged with murder in connection with Moore's death.
Law enforcement agencies collaborated in the search for Sims, with Urbana police detectives working alongside members of the U.S. Marshal Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. Their efforts culminated on December 18, 2023, at approximately 4:25 p.m., when Sims was located and apprehended in the 300 block of Bloomington Road in Champaign. The arrest was carried out by members of the U.S. Marshal Service in cooperation with officers from the Champaign Police Department.
