On February 4, 2013, 29-year-old Curtis L. Mosley, an African American male, was fatally shot in his apartment at 1101 E. Colorado Avenue in Urbana, Illinois. At approximately 8:30 p.m., an unidentified assailant forced entry into the residence and discharged multiple gunshots at Mosley. He was promptly transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Curtis Mosley was scheduled to testify the following day in a Champaign County aggravated battery trial against 23-year-old Ardis Fenn. The case stemmed from a June 12 incident outside the Above & Beyond Detailing shop, where Mosley worked. During that event, Mosley was shot in the leg in an attempted robbery but was treated and released from the hospital the same night.
Following Mosley's death, the trial against Fenn was delayed as the defendant failed to appear in court. Authorities described the suspect in Mosley's shooting as an African American male wearing a Carhartt jacket and a mask covering the lower part of his face. As of February 6, 2013, the assailant remained at large.
Curtis L. Mosley was born on January 1, 1984, and was laid to rest at Rock Mill Baptist Church Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia. He was remembered as a rapper who "would light up any room he walked into," known for making others laugh even in difficult times. He is survived by two children.
