On Christmas morning in 2019, the life of 37-year-old Kenneth Irvin Lawson was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire within a business on East Main Street in Richmond, Virginia. The shooting, which occurred at approximately 12:49 a.m. on December 25th, resulted in Lawson's death at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound. He was a married father of five.
The violent incident was not isolated to Lawson; three other individuals were also shot.
An adult male and an adult female were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, while another adult female with a non-life-threatening injury was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle. The Richmond Police Department was called to the 1800 block of East Main Street to investigate the quadruple shooting.
In the wake of the tragedy, Lawson's family and friends were left reeling. Described as a loving and joyful spirit, Kenneth, who was also known by the nickname 'Heavy,' was remembered for his love of music, dancing, and being surrounded by his community in the Highland Park area. His family gathered for a vigil, pleading for justice and for anyone with information to come forward.
Despite the public pleas for assistance and the ongoing investigation by the Richmond Police Department's Major Crimes detectives, no arrests in the case have been publicly announced. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information regarding the homicide to contact the Richmond Police or Crime Stoppers. The case has been highlighted by the National Gun Violence Memorial, which notes that he was lost to gun violence.
