In the early morning hours of September 15, 2019, the life of Jacob S. Jones, a 34-year-old Black male from Richmond, Virginia, was tragically cut short. Jones was discovered by Richmond Police officers around 2:00 a.m. in a parking lot located in the 6300 block of Jahnke Road on the city's southside. He was suffering from a gunshot wound and, despite the efforts of first responders, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The medical examiner later confirmed that a gunshot wound was the cause of his death.
At the time of the incident, the parking lot was reportedly filled with people, yet few leads have emerged in the investigation into his killing. Jones was a father of two children and was known in the community, in part, as the godson of a former Richmond City Councilwoman, Michelle Mosby. His family and friends were left devastated by the sudden and violent loss.
In the years that have followed, the case of Jacob Jones's death has remained unsolved. Despite public pleas from his family for anyone with information to come forward, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. The Richmond Police Department's investigation is ongoing, and as of now, there have been no publicly identified suspects. The family has offered a financial reward for information that leads to an arrest, hoping that someone will step forward and provide the crucial details needed to bring his killer to justice.
