In the summer of 2010, the life of 22-year-old Robert Lee Cox Jr., a Black male from Richmond, Virginia, was tragically cut short. On the evening of June 8th, he was discovered slumped over the steering wheel of his car off Mechanicsville Turnpike in Henrico County, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
The violent nature of his death in a residential area suggested a sudden and brutal attack, leaving a community in shock and a family devastated.
The investigation into the murder of Robert, affectionately known as 'Robbie,' has been a long and arduous one for the Henrico County Police Department. Over the years, despite ongoing efforts and public appeals for information, the case has grown cold. No arrests have ever been made in connection with his killing, and no suspects have been publicly identified, leaving his loved ones without answers or a sense of justice. On the 10th anniversary of his death, law enforcement renewed their call for any tips that might lead to a breakthrough in the unsolved case.
Adding to the immense grief and mystery surrounding Robert's death, his family was struck by another tragedy just a year and a half later. In December 2011, his mother, Bonnie Marrow, also became a victim of gun violence. She was fatally shot near Church Hill, reportedly while on her way to her job at VCU Medical Center, possibly after visiting her son's grave at Oakwood Cemetery. The proximity and violent nature of these two unsolved murders have left a lasting scar on the family and the community, as they continue to hope for answers in the deaths of both mother and son.
