In the Hillside Court neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia, on the morning of February 2, 2025, the life of 20-year-old Christopher Russell Collins III, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. Richmond police were dispatched to a residence on Glenfield Avenue around 10:18 a.m. following a report of a shooting. Inside the home, they discovered Collins unresponsive, having sustained an apparent gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, but his
injuries proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them shortly after arrival. The initial investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect who was known to the victim. Authorities identified 19-year-old Shawna Lewis, who resided in the same home as Collins, as the individual allegedly responsible for his death.
In connection with the fatal shooting, Shawna Lewis was taken into custody and has since been charged with voluntary manslaughter. The medical examiner was tasked with determining the official cause and manner of death. Investigators have continued to gather evidence and witness statements as the case remains under active investigation.
