Elijah R. Chavis, a 26-year-old resident of Portsmouth, Virginia, tragically lost his life on January 2, 2020. The incident occurred in the 90 block of Merrimac Drive, where police responded to a call around 8:20 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found Chavis suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.
