On the evening of February 16, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Pomona Police Department patrol officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1800 block of Cordova Street, west of Indian Hill Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered a pickup truck stopped at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Falcon Street, containing two male occupants with gunshot wounds. One of the men, later identified as 22-year-old Baldwin Park resident Salvador Navarro Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other individual sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office determined that Navarro Jr. died from multiple gunshot wounds, classifying his death as a homicide. Investigators believe the shooting originated on Cordova Street, with one of the wounded men managing to drive the vehicle to Foothill Boulevard before stopping. As of the latest available information, authorities have not released any descriptions of potential suspects involved in the incident.
The Pomona Police Department's Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Navarro Jr.'s death. They have urged anyone with information to come forward by contacting the department directly or through anonymous channels such as Crime Stoppers.
