In the winter of 2020, a life was tragically cut short in Roanoke, Virginia. Nasion Akia Daray Brewer, a 25-year-old man, died on January 11, 2020. Remembered as a hardworking employee of Americold and a loyal friend and family man, his death left a void in the community. He was born on November 20, 1994, to Kristie F. Brewer and the late Jacob Terry Jr.
The events leading to Brewer's death unfolded just after midnight at a residence in the 1800 block of Gandy Drive NW.
Roanoke Police responded to a report of a shooting and found Brewer inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported by Roanoke Fire-EMS to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
Initial investigations by the police indicated that a confrontation between Brewer and another individual escalated, leading to the fatal shots being fired. The investigation moved swiftly, and soon after the incident, a suspect was identified.
Two days after the shooting, on January 13, 2020, Roanoke Police arrested 19-year-old Camron Williams in connection with Brewer's death. Williams was taken into custody without incident at a residence in the 900 block of 5th Street NW. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and subsequent shooting continued.
