Edward LeAnthony Gates, a 43-year-old Black man, died on September 17, 2023, in a shooting that stemmed from a domestic dispute in Roanoke, Virginia. The incident, which took place at a residence on Hunt Avenue, ultimately led to the arrest of his stepson.
On the day of the shooting, an altercation occurred between Gates and his wife. In the midst of this dispute, Christopher Arias, Gates's stepson, intervened and shot Gates multiple times.
Emergency services were called to the home, where they found Gates suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Following an investigation into the homicide, Christopher Arias was arrested and subsequently indicted for the murder of his stepfather.
