In a tragic incident on March 19, 2017, in Wichita, Kansas, 17-year-old male Michael Farrow was fatally shot. The altercation that led to his death stemmed from a dispute with his father, Glen Farrow, concerning the date he was meant to return to school after spring break.
The argument took place in the front yard of their home on North Minnesota. As the disagreement escalated, Glen Farrow, then 41, produced a handgun. Michael attempted to flee the scene, running eastbound from the yard.
It was then that his father fired several shots, striking his son. Authorities later found Michael in a nearby alley with a single gunshot wound to his torso. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. A friend who was with Michael at the time identified his father as the shooter and led police to the residence.
Glen Farrow was taken into custody without incident on the same day. He was initially arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail with a bond set at $150,000. In April 2017, Glen Farrow pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. The following June, he was sentenced to over 20 years in prison for the killing of his son. During the sentencing, the judge expressed regret that a longer sentence could not be imposed.
