In the late afternoon of May 31, 2024, 14-year-old Khamya Ferrell was visiting a friend at an apartment in District Heights, Maryland, after school. A burst of gunfire erupted outside in the 6600 block of Atwood Street shortly before 2 p.m. Inside the apartment, Khamya was struck by a stray bullet.
