In the quiet evening of October 1, 2020, the life of 29-year-old Datron Porch was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire in Chesapeake, Virginia. A Black male, Porch was discovered by police responding to reports of gunshots in the 4200 block of Reid Street around 9:43 p.m. His body was located in the nearby 2000 block of Linster Street, where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.
The violence of that night also left another adult male wounded.
This second victim, who sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, was able to transport himself to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators determined he was in the same area as Porch when the shooting occurred. In the immediate aftermath, Chesapeake Police initiated a homicide investigation, piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
