On the evening of June 7, 2005, a sense of unease led a family member to the 500 block of Marcus Street in Chesapeake, Virginia. Inside the residence, a grim discovery was made. Nathaniel Huggins III, a 23-year-old male, was found murdered in his home alongside two of his friends, Andre Jackson and Motty Toxey Jr. All three men had been shot and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The tragic event unfolded at approximately 9:40 p.m., leaving a community in shock and a family grappling with a devastating loss.
The night of the murders, Huggins was on the phone with a family member when the conversation was abruptly interrupted by loud bangs. After the line went silent, the concerned family member repeatedly tried to call back. With no answer, family members drove to the house to check on him, only to be met with a horrific scene. The three young men, who were described as polite individuals who grew up together, shared a passion for music and were simply spending the evening together watching television when their lives were cut short.
In the years that have passed, the case has grown cold, and no arrests have been made in connection with the triple homicide. The Chesapeake Police Department continues to investigate the unsolved murders. A person of interest was identified as a Black male who was seen exiting a dark-colored SUV with custom wheels in the area around 9 p.m. on the night of the killings. He was described as wearing a white t-shirt, dark-colored pants, and having a short afro. A reward of up to $1,500 has been offered for any information that leads to an arrest in this lingering case.
