A street dispute in Chesterfield County, Virginia, on the afternoon of April 22, 2021, escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 33-year-old Ronald M. Wright, II. The incident, which occurred in the 6500 block of Elkhardt Road, initially left Wright with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
Authorities quickly identified a suspect in the shooting, leading to the arrest of Gregory D.
Clark, Jr., a 27-year-old man from Chesterfield. Clark was taken into custody on the same day as the shooting and was initially charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Following Wright's death, the charges against Clark were upgraded to include second-degree murder. Investigations revealed that the two men did not know each other prior to the deadly altercation.
Clark was indicted by a grand jury in June 2021 on charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. In January 2022, a jury found Clark guilty of voluntary manslaughter and use of a firearm in the commission of manslaughter. The jury recommended a sentence of 10 years in prison for the manslaughter charge and an additional three years for the firearm charge. In April 2022, a Chesterfield County judge imposed the jury's recommended sentence of 13 years in prison.
