In the summer of 2007, a family was irrevocably changed by an act of violence that claimed the life of a young man. James Curtis 'Lil' Mike' Seay, a 24-year-old Black / African American male, was killed by gunfire on June 11, 2007, in Richmond, Virginia. His death left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him, a community was shaken, and a family was left to navigate a future without him.
James was remembered as a cherished son to his mother, Andrea J.
Seay, and his stepfather, Will Kilpatrick. He was also a father to his young daughter, JaNiya Seay. His grandfathers, John W. Seay and James Jones Sr., and his sisters, Jamica and Shantell Jones, were also left to mourn his sudden and tragic loss. The pain of his absence was deeply felt by his extended family and a wide circle of friends who remembered him fondly. Funeral services were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, and he was laid to rest in Riverview Cemetery.
In the years that have passed since James Seay's life was cut short, the case surrounding his death has remained unsolved.
