In the predawn hours of August 1, 2019, the life of 39-year-old Jammie Lee Walker, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. in a rear parking lot of the Bloom Apartments on Chamberlayne Avenue in Richmond, Virginia. When Richmond Police officers responded to reports of gunfire, they discovered Walker and another man, 34-year-old Olajuwon Akeem Elleby, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response from emergency services, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Walker was remembered by those who knew him as a kind-hearted and generous individual, a loving father who was deeply involved in his community. Many recalled his dedication to helping children through sports and other activities, viewing him as a role model.
