On a summer night in 2013, the life of Victor Amilcar Soriano-Aviles, a 40-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in his Richmond, Virginia home. In the early moments of August 18th, just after midnight, two unidentified men with ill intentions forced their way into his apartment located at 1754 Clarkson Road, Apartment B. The intruders, described as two skinny Black males with their faces obscured by black masks, were armed and immediately demanded money.
The situation inside
the apartment quickly escalated. One of the assailants used a black handgun to strike Soriano-Aviles in the face, initiating a physical confrontation. In a brave attempt to intervene, the victim's cousin, Buenerge DeJesus Soriano, struggled with the armed suspect. Amid the chaos of the struggle, a single gunshot echoed through the living room. Victor Soriano-Aviles was struck in the head.
Following the fatal shot, the two intruders fled the scene, disappearing through the rear door of the apartment into the darkness. They left empty-handed, as nothing was reported stolen from the residence. The Richmond Police Department was summoned to the scene where they found Soriano-Aviles lying on his living room floor. Despite the immediate response, his life could not be saved.
