On the evening of April 18, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the relative quiet near a public housing complex in Brooklyn, leaving a 56-year-old man, James Huff, with fatal injuries. A resident of Strauss Street, Huff was found near the Brownsville Houses at 275 Blake Avenue at approximately 6:34 p.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers from the 73rd Precinct responded to a 911 call and discovered him with two gunshot wounds to his chest and another to his arm.
Emergency medical
services arrived at the scene and quickly transported Huff to the nearby Brookdale University Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a short time after his arrival. The motive for the shooting remains unclear to investigators.
In the aftermath of the shooting, police began an investigation into the circumstances of Huff's death. As of the initial reports, no arrests had been made, and the investigation was described as ongoing. Authorities have indicated that they are looking for a woman who was reportedly seen leaving the area in a silver sedan shortly after the shots were fired. The police have encouraged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and have provided contact information for their Crime Stoppers program.
