In the early morning hours of May 23, 2021, the quiet community of Parrott, Virginia, was disturbed by an act of violence that resulted in the death of Anna Quillen Amburgey, a 39-year-old White / Caucasian female. Deputies from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office responded to a call around 4 a.m. concerning a possible homicide in the 8200 block of Parrott River Road.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Anna Amburgey deceased at the scene.
The investigation that followed indicated that Amburgey had been involved in a physical altercation that ultimately led to her death. Authorities quickly identified Corey Wayne Hodge, a 28-year-old from Fairlawn, Virginia, as the primary suspect in the case. Following the incident, Hodge fled the area, which prompted a manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The collaborative effort included the Radford City Police Department, the Dublin Police Department, and the Virginia State Police, among others.
The search for Hodge concluded when he was located and apprehended by the Pulaski Police Department on Oakhurst Avenue in the town of Pulaski. Following his arrest, Corey Wayne Hodge was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was subsequently held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail to await further legal proceedings.
