In the early morning hours of July 5, 2021, a wave of violence rippled through Richmond, Virginia, tragically cutting short the life of 23-year-old Timothy Richardson. A recent graduate of Armstrong High School who had gone on to attend a trade school, Richardson was known by his family for his playful nature and his talent for math and designing clothes. He was a passenger in a Kia sedan, traveling on the Shockoe Valley Bridge along Interstate 64, when the unthinkable happened.
Another vehicle, described only as a sedan, pulled alongside the Kia in the left lane and unleashed a barrage of gunfire into the car, striking Richardson.
The driver of the Kia, seeking immediate help, exited the interstate and stopped near the Richmond Convention Center. From there, Timothy Richardson was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died later that day. The shooting left his family heartbroken, including his mother, Andrea Richardson, who was overcome with grief, and his nine-month-old daughter who will now grow up without her father.
In the days following the shooting, Virginia State Police opened an investigation into the homicide. Family members, devastated by their loss, made public pleas for any information that could lead to the capture of those responsible for Timothy's death. They remembered him as a kind and gentle person, whose large stature belied a soft and caring nature. Despite their appeals and the ongoing police investigation, no arrests have been announced in connection with the murder of Timothy Richardson. The case remains a painful and unresolved chapter for a family and a community still searching for answers and justice.
