In the summer of 2021, the quiet community of Crimora, Virginia, was shaken by the violent death of Kelin Mirei Pacheco-White, a 38-year-old female. On July 19th, she was found deceased in her home on Morton Road, having suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. Pacheco-White, who was born in Puerto Rico, was a dedicated employee of the Hershey Chocolate Company for eighteen years and was known as a loving mother and a devoted family member.
The investigation into her death quickly focused
on her husband, Dwayne L. White. Evidence revealed a troubled marriage plagued by infidelity and domestic disputes. In the aftermath of the shooting, White did not call for help or check on his wife. Instead, he fled the scene, later turning himself in to the Staunton Police Department. His cousin, Isaac E. Davis, was also implicated and subsequently arrested, charged with being an accessory after the fact to the homicide.
During the trial, the court heard the grim details of the crime. Kelin Pacheco-White had been shot twelve times in various parts of her body, including her back, legs, side, chest, shoulder, arm, and neck. Some of the wounds indicated that the shots were fired at close range. Dwayne L. White claimed the shooting occurred during a struggle that ensued after his wife allegedly pulled a gun on him. However, the physical evidence contradicted his version of events. The medical examiner testified that the gunshot wounds to her back were not consistent with a struggle. Ultimately, a jury found Dwayne L. White guilty of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, facing the possibility of life in prison for the murder of his wife.
