In the summer of 2021, a young man's life was cut short in a tragic act of violence in Richmond, Virginia. Darrick Tabb, a 22-year-old male, was found with a fatal gunshot wound on the evening of Tuesday, July 20, 2021. The discovery was made by police officers who were responding to a call about a person down in an apartment located in the 600 block of West Bacon Street.
Upon their arrival at approximately 9:58 p.m., they found Tabb, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Darrick Tabb quickly led authorities to a person of interest. A suspect, identified as 20-year-old Ti'Keise Johnson of Richmond, was taken into custody two days later, on Thursday, July 22, 2021. His arrest, however, did not initially occur in Richmond. Johnson was apprehended in Dinwiddie County by the local sheriff's deputies in connection with a robbery case in that jurisdiction.
At the time of his arrest in Dinwiddie County, Richmond Police detectives already had outstanding warrants for Johnson for firearms violations linked to the homicide of Tabb. Following his capture, it was announced that additional charges against Johnson concerning the death on West Bacon Street were pending. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life, as arrangements were made for Darrick Tabb's viewing and funeral service to be held in the days that followed.
