In the spring of 2019, a young man's life was tragically cut short in a violent encounter on the south side of Richmond, Virginia. Samuel Flaugher, a 19-year-old male, was a recent graduate of Thomas Dale High School and a student at John Tyler Community College. On the evening of April 15th, he found himself in the 4000 block of Meridian Avenue, where an altercation would leave him with a fatal gunshot wound.
According to reports, Samuel was with a couple of friends in his vehicle when
he met with another individual. It is believed that he was there to conduct a drug transaction when he was ambushed by one or two individuals who emerged from behind a house. The assailants robbed Samuel of marijuana before the situation escalated to gunfire. Despite being grievously wounded, he managed to flee the immediate scene, eventually collapsing on the porch of a nearby house on Cole Street. It was from this location that he was transported to a local hospital.
For three days, Samuel fought for his life at VCU Medical Center, but his injuries proved too severe. He succumbed to the gunshot wound on April 18, 2019. In the wake of his death, his family made the decision to donate his organs, allowing a part of him to live on.
The investigation into Samuel Flaugher's murder remains ongoing, yet it has grown cold over the years. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Richmond Police Department has appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case. Samuel's family, devastated by their loss, continues to advocate for justice, holding onto the hope that those responsible for his death will one day be held accountable. The case has been highlighted by organizations such as the Reopen the Case Foundation in an effort to bring renewed attention to this unsolved homicide.
