A man is shot and found in the driveway of a house in Richmond, VA In the early evening hours of January 7, 2012, 21-year-old De'Shawn L. Mayo was found lying in the street in the 600 block of Woodhaven Drive in Richmond, Virginia. He was an African-American male who, though he grew up in the area, was not a current resident, leaving his reason for being there a mystery to his family. Just before 8 p.m., he was reportedly seen getting into a dark-colored, four-door car. A text message sent from his phone at 8:03 p.m.
confirmed he was still alive at that time.
Less than an hour later, a 911 call was made at 8:47 p.m. reporting a person, possibly shot, in the street. When police and emergency services arrived, they found De'Shawn unresponsive with a significant amount of blood under his head. Despite having a pulse and receiving immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital. The cause of death was a gunshot wound.
The investigation into De'Shawn L. Mayo's death has since gone cold. The Richmond Police Department has listed his case as an unsolved homicide. Early in the investigation, some tips were received, and authorities have expressed a desire to speak with those individuals again. However, to date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with his murder.
