A joyous celebration turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy in Richmond, Virginia, when 18-year-old Shawn Jackson was shot and killed just moments after his Huguenot High School graduation ceremony. The male victim had just received his diploma and was with his family in a nearby park when gunfire erupted. His father, Lorenzo Smith, who was 36 years old, was also killed in the shooting. Five other people were wounded during the incident.
Authorities quickly identified a suspect, 19-year-old Amari Pollard. Police stated that Pollard knew Jackson and that the two had been involved in an ongoing dispute for over a year. The shooting was described as a targeted attack against Jackson. In the immediate aftermath, Pollard was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder. He was held without bond.
