On June 6, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Richmond, Virginia, following the Huguenot High School graduation ceremony. Shawn Jackson, an 18-year-old graduate, and his stepfather, Renzo Smith, were fatally shot in Monroe Park near the Altria Theater where the commencement had taken place. Five other individuals were also injured in the shooting.
