In the summer of 2021, the life of 31-year-old Tyree Shamon Carroll Sr. was tragically cut short in a burst of violence. On the evening of Tuesday, July 27, police were called to the 1900 block of R Street in Richmond, Virginia, around 5:17 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Tyree Carroll on the ground, having sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Born on May 17, 1990, in Richmond, Tyree was a father and a construction worker by trade. He was known by loved ones to be a family-oriented man who was a natural protector. A graduate of Henrico High School, he was remembered for his self-confidence and his dedication to his children, teaching them to be responsible and respectful. His sudden and violent death left his family, including his mother, fiancée, and several children, to mourn their profound loss.
The investigation into the homicide quickly developed. Within days, a suspect was identified. A 17-year-old male from Henrico voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the Richmond Justice Center on the Saturday following the shooting. The juvenile was subsequently charged with murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. At the time of the suspect's surrender, detectives stated that they were not actively seeking any other individuals in connection with the fatal shooting of Tyree Carroll.
