On a Tuesday evening in November 2021, a journey on a GRTC bus in Richmond, Virginia, turned fatal for Jonathan Contreras, a 22-year-old Hispanic male. The incident unfolded around 11:03 p.m. on November 9th in the 4000 block of Hull Street. An adult male, who was known to Contreras, boarded the bus and recognized him sitting across the aisle. What began as a verbal confrontation over a previous incident quickly escalated into a physical fight, culminating in the suspect shooting Contreras.
