On a cold December night in Petersburg, Virginia, the life of 22-year-old Fequon Demariea Stith was tragically cut short. The young Black / African American man, known affectionately by friends and family as 'DB Fee,' 'FeeFee,' and 'Quon,' was found with life-threatening gunshot wounds on the evening of December 19, 2021. The discovery was made in the 200 block of Medical Park Boulevard, a location that would become the focal point of a homicide investigation.
Emergency services rushed Fequon to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe. His passing sent ripples of grief through his community. He was remembered as a vibrant and uplifting individual who had a positive impact on those around him. A 2017 graduate of Hopewell High School, Fequon had sought to build a future for himself, attending Flat Woods Job Corps in Tennessee where he obtained licenses in plumbing, HVAC, and forklift operation. At the time of his death, he was an employee at Tripple E Express.
The Petersburg Police Department launched an immediate investigation into the shooting. Their efforts quickly led to a breakthrough in the case. Just two days after Fequon's death, on December 21, 2021, authorities arrested 25-year-old Edward Spencer in connection with the killing. Spencer was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was held without bond pending further legal proceedings. While an arrest was made, the investigation continued, with police urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The community, meanwhile, mourned the loss of a young life full of promise and awaited justice for Fequon.
