Investigator Wallace Monroe Simpson, aged 41, tragically lost his life on October 23, 1951, in Petersburg, Virginia. He was a dedicated member of the Virginia State Police. On that fateful day, Investigator Simpson was involved in a critical incident with an escaped mental patient from the Central State Hospital near Petersburg. The suspect had fled while participating in a work crew on the hospital's farm and subsequently barricaded himself in a home adjoining the hospital property.
