In the early morning hours of March 19, 2022, the life of 21-year-old T'Khira Monique Browley, a Black / African American female from Lynchburg, Virginia, was tragically cut short. She was attending a birthday party on Old Wright Shop Road in Madison Heights when gunfire erupted at approximately 1:47 a.m. When deputies and emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they discovered Browley suffering from a gunshot wound.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Browley was a loving mother to twin boys and had dreams of becoming a registered nurse and opening her own hair care business. Her death was not the first time her family had been touched by gun violence; a relative, Dre'Yon Browley, was shot and killed in May 2019. In the same incident that claimed T'Khira's life, four other individuals were also shot and subsequently treated at Lynchburg General Hospital. The injured included an 18-year-old in critical condition who was shot in the back, a 30-year-old man shot in the hand, a 28-year-old man shot in the leg, and a 16-year-old boy who sustained a gunshot wound to the arm.
Despite the number of victims and the ongoing investigation by the Amherst County Sheriff's Office, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Law enforcement officials have stated they do not have any leads on a gunman but believe it was an isolated incident with no further threat to the public. The authorities have faced challenges in gathering information and have publicly urged anyone with knowledge of the events to come forward to help bring justice to T'Khira Monique Browley's family. The investigation into her death remains active as her family and community continue to seek answers.
