In the spring of 2012, a business transaction inside a Virginia Beach recording studio took a fatal turn, ending the life of 43-year-old Jackie Delice. The incident, which occurred on April 22nd in the 4600 block of Pembroke Lake Circle, was the result of a drug deal that escalated into violence. Delice was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.
Investigations revealed that Delice had arranged to meet with three men, Tommie Lawrence Cherry, Terrell Antonio Pugh, and Dwayne Tyjuan Riley, at the recording studio for the purpose of selling marijuana. An argument reportedly erupted over the quality of the marijuana, leading to a physical confrontation. During the altercation, Terrell Antonio Pugh drew a firearm and shot Delice four times. Although Delice was also armed and managed to fire his own weapon twice, his injuries proved fatal.
The owner of the recording studio promptly contacted the police and identified the individuals involved, which led to the eventual arrest and conviction of all three men. Terrell Antonio Pugh, the man who fired the fatal shots, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, conspiracy to distribute marijuana, and use of a firearm. He received a sentence of 16 years in prison. Tommie Lawrence Cherry was also convicted in connection with the murder and the drug deal, while Dwayne Tyjuan Riley, who was not directly involved in the shooting, was sentenced to two years and two months for conspiracy to distribute marijuana.
