In the spring of 2022, the life of 17-year-old Samiyah Yellardy, a Black female, was tragically cut short in her own home in Richmond, Virginia. On the night of April 10, while her mother was out of town, an intruder broke into their apartment on Afton Avenue. Samiyah was shot in the stairwell and died at the scene.
