In the early hours of April 21, 2022, the life of 33-year-old Sean William Lilly was tragically cut short in Newport News, Virginia. Police were called to a residence in the 300 block of Royal Springs Court around 1:40 a.m. for a report of a shooting. Inside the apartment, they discovered Sean William Lilly, a male, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Originally from Plainfield, New Jersey, Lilly had moved to Newport News in 1999. He was known for his passion for acrobatics and writing poetry. At the time of his death, he was a team lead at an Arby's restaurant. His sudden and violent death sent ripples of grief and shock through his family, friends, and the wider community.
According to witnesses inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, a suspect, described as a Black male with a stocky build, standing between 5'6' and 5'9', entered the residence. The suspect, who was wearing a black face mask, shot Lilly and then fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The motive for the shooting has not been publicly released by authorities.
As of now, the investigation into Sean William Lilly's murder remains active and ongoing. The Newport News Police Department has been diligently working the case, processing forensic evidence from the scene and seeking leads from the public. They have made public appeals for anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide, and no suspect has been publicly identified beyond the initial description. The case remains a painful and unresolved tragedy for his loved ones who continue to await justice.
