In the evening hours of April 24, 2022, the life of 20-year-old D’Manuel Carlyle Banks of Newport News, Virginia, was tragically cut short. A Black/African American male, Banks was fatally wounded in a shooting that unfolded near the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and 34th Street. First responders from the Newport News Police Department were dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:39 p.m. following reports of gunfire in the area.
