In the early morning hours of May 22, 2022, the life of 34-year-old Dwight ONeil Gilmore, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Lynchburg, Virginia. The incident unfolded around 2:16 a.m. outside the Shalom Apartments located at 702 Federal Street, where Gilmore was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Despite the efforts of law enforcement who were called to the scene, he was pronounced dead.
The Lynchburg Police Department swiftly launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with Gilmore's death, and no arrests have been made. Investigators have urged the public for assistance, appealing to anyone with information or video footage related to the incident to come forward.
The community was deeply impacted by this act of violence.
