In the summer of 2022, a young man's life was cut tragically short on a street in Richmond, Virginia. Dylan Mikail Johnson, a 22-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on the evening of July 27th. The incident unfolded on the 4900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue, where Richmond Police officers were dispatched at approximately 5:55 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite any efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The immediate investigation by the Richmond Police Department's Major Crimes Division led to a swift arrest. A suspect, 21-year-old Anthony Dandridge, Jr., also a resident of Richmond, was apprehended at the location of the shooting. Dandridge was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with Johnson's death. The case then proceeded through the legal system to be adjudicated. A memorial gathering was held for Dylan Johnson on August 5, 2022, at a funeral home in Richmond, allowing family and friends to mourn their loss.
