In the late hours of a November evening, the quiet of a Chesterfield County neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. On November 10, 2023, police were called to the 2500 block of Alfalfa Lane, where they found 33-year-old Donavan James Fritz II suffering from a gunshot wound. The male victim was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, clinging to life for eight days before he succumbed to his injuries on November 18, 2023.
Donavan was a husband and father,
known for his strong work ethic in the construction and landscaping fields. He was remembered as a loving family man who enjoyed exercising, being outdoors, and spending cherished moments with his wife and son. His passing left a deep void in the lives of his extensive family, including his parents, siblings, and numerous other relatives and friends.
In the days that followed the shooting, investigators from the Chesterfield County Police Department worked to piece together the events that led to the tragic incident. Their efforts led to the arrest of a suspect just three days after the initial shooting. On November 13, 2023, detectives took 21-year-old Jaheim Clements into custody in connection with the case.
Clements, a resident of Richmond, was initially charged with malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Following Fritz's death, authorities anticipated that additional charges would be forthcoming. Clements was taken to Riverside Regional Jail, where he was held without bond as the investigation continued. The motive for the shooting was not immediately released to the public.
