On a Thursday evening in Newport News, Virginia, the life of 21-year-old Antone Montana Daddy Artis was tragically cut short. On November 10, 2022, police responded to a call for medical assistance in the 700 block of Windy Way. There, near a fence line, they discovered Artis, who was not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the victim of a single gunshot wound.
The investigation into the death of the young male was immediately classified as a homicide.
In the days and months that followed, the Newport News Police Department actively sought information from the public to help piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. A Crime Line video was released detailing the circumstances of Artis's death, and a reward of up to $1,500 was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest in the case.
Despite these efforts, the investigation has yet to result in any arrests, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case of Antone Artis's death remains an open and active homicide investigation. The Newport News Police Department continues to encourage anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and assist in bringing closure to his family.
